Creative Fall Craft Ideas To Beat The End Of Summer Blues

Updated: Sep 13, 2022

The start of September means summer is winding down. Although fall technically does not start until September 22nd, it already feels like Autumn is in the air. Pools are closing, school is starting, and it is starting to get dark earlier and earlier. Although the end of summer can be a bummer, there is still a lot to look forward to in the fall season. You can go pumpkin picking, go on hayrides, treat-or-treat, or jump in leaves. However, if you prefer to stay indoors once September hits here are five fun fall craft ideas to beat the end of summer blues!

Pumpkin Painting

After a long day of picking the perfect pumpkin from the patch you are going to want to make sure you get the most use out of it! Make your pumpkin into a little round friend by sticking on some googly eyes, gluing on green yarn for hair, and painting on a mouth with black paint pens. Finish off your pumpkin's look with a cute bow.

Turkey Hand

The turkey hand is an elementary school art class favorite! This is a fun and easy craft for kids of all ages to really get into the fall spirit! All you need is construction paper, a glue stick, and some feathers if you would really like to go above and beyond! Start out by tracing your hand on each color of construction paper. Next, use the brown construction paper to created a turkey by cutting out a big circle for the body and a little circle for the face. After the turkey is created add the feet and a beak using orange constructing paper. Glue your feathers onto the turkey and then paste the finished product onto construction paper. Lastly, add feathers that correspond to the colors of the construction paper.

Leaf Rubbing

Although the colorful Autumn leaves will not last forever, you can capture their beauty by creating a leaf rubbing. All you need is white construction paper and crayons. Start this craft off by finding some leaves outside. Non-wrinkled leaves will work best. Once you have gathered your leaves, place one leaf at a time underneath the construction paper. Rub your crayon over the leaf until you can clearly see the shape of the leaf. For best results, use leaves with different shapes and sizes.

Fall Wreath

When most people hear the word "wreath", they usually think about Christmas. However, fall wreaths can be just as beautiful and making one is a great indoor family activity to do when the weather starts getting cold! All you need is a Styrofoam circle, hot glue gun, and fake leaves (real leaves will get crushed too easily). All you need to do is hot glue the fake leaves onto the Styrofoam circle and you now have a fall decoration you can use for years!

Popsicle Stick Characters

With Halloween coming up, make some fun decorations using only popsicle sticks, a paint kit, and small googly eyes. Ideas for this craft using only the above items are limitless but a pumpkin, Frankenstein's monster, or a mummy are an easy start!
