How to Get the Best Deals and Discounts on and Before Black Friday

Updated: Jan 12, 2023

Although Black Friday is still about a month away, the deals are already starting to pop up on everything from Air Pods to air fryers. With record high inflation rates this year, retailers are trying to promote deals earlier than ever in order to attract more shoppers. This means that you should definitely be searching for Black Friday steals before November 25th. This blog will act as your guide to all the where's, when's, what's, and whys of Black Friday sales so you don’t end up overpaying for gifts two days before Christmas again!

When is Black Friday this year?

Black Friday falls on November 25th this year. Although the actual date of Black Friday changes from year to year, it is always the day after Thanksgiving.

Why do they call it Black Friday?

The term “Black Friday” can be traced all the way back to the 1960’s. Many people believe that the name comes from retail profits going from “red” (unprofitable) to “black” (profitable) because of the increase in demand before the holidays. However, the term actually originates from the horrific traffic in Philadelphia that occurred on the day after Thanksgiving due to the influx of people from outside the city visiting for the Army vs. Navy football game.

Where can you find the best Black Friday deals?

Although several retailers offer Black Friday discounts, most deals are not worth your time. The best Black Friday sales are usually offered by big brands such as Walmart, Best Buy, Target, and of course, Amazon.

Amazon is a great choice for Black Friday shopping because you can shop for dozens of product families on one convenient website. Not to mention that you don’t have to wake up at 3:00am to go to a crowded mall after you just ate 3 plates of turkey the day before! Amazon is already starting to offer great deals that we will talk about later.

If you actually enjoy the thrill of Black Friday shopping in person, Best Buy and Walmart are great choices and we will also be discussing their deals.

How can you get the best Black Friday deals?

In order to get the best deals this Black Friday, you need to understand the tricks that some companies will play on you to make you think you are getting a better deal than you really are. For example, many retailers will gradually begin increasing their prices from August to October and then drop the price down to the original cost so you think you are getting a deal when Black Friday hits. This practice is very common for expensive products such as TVs or laptops.

It is also smart to consider only buying products that have features you really need. Sometimes popular name brand items will not be on sale but almost identical generic items will be.

When should you shop for the best Black Friday deals?

It is very common for the best Black Friday deals to occur during the weeks leading up to it rather than the day itself. Big ticket items such as AirPods, Macbooks, and TVs may also sell out quickly because people are trying to beat the Black Friday rush.

The best advice is to just keep your eyes out for deals a few weeks before Black Friday and if you see something for a good price, buy it. Although if you have the time and enjoy it, there is no harm in searching for deals on the big day itself, just keep in mind it is much more unpredictable.

Black Friday 2022 Predictions and Current Deals

Due to supply issues and shipping delays, stores have started offering deals earlier and earlier because they fear that products may not come in time for November 25th. Amazon already had a two day sale earlier this month. Current Amazon sales include a 2020 MacBook Air for 20% off, 13% off a 2022 Apple iPad Air, and 30% off an Insignia 39-inch Class F20 Series Smart HD 720p Fire TV. Other stores such as Best Buy and Walmart also jumped on the bandwagon. Although Best Buy is known for its tech products, today they are offering an originally $109 air fryer for only $49.99. Be sure to check out their deal of the day page online everyday for new offers. Walmart also has great deals leading up to Black Friday on their rollback page.
